Amelia Jones sings World Digital Premiere of “First Light”

Australian soprano Amelia Jones has just released on You Tube a song Alan Holley composed for her from my sonnet, “First Light.” The poem appears in A Gathered Distance. The poem is one of stubborn hope and remembrance, of spring and dusk and dawn, night’s selvedges. It’s about the darkness the light tells and the dark the light tells, the exquisite doubleness of things. Alan has divined all the colours I only guessed at in the dim light of my own composition. He has adumbrated for Milly’s pure, true soprano the levity and the gravity of a beginning again. Thank you to Milly and to Alan. It feels nice to have one’s work treated with this kind of respect and art. Listen to Milly sing Alan Holley’s “First Light,” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIANBOOPkt0.
