Buoyancy
Cath Drake, an Australian poet and journalist, now living in London, has invited me to read some poems, via zoom, with her poetry class on Saturday 6 June, 6pm Sydney time. Cath describes her class, this way: “Aussie & UK writers have been meeting up to write pieces of solace, poignancy, observation and joy during these extraordinary lockdown times, under the heading 'Writing to Buoy Us'.” Her participants come from Liverpool, London, Lincoln, Devon, Worcester, Margate, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, the Gold Coast, Auckland and the south of France. Not sure yet what I’ll read, but certainly a couple of short poems from the heart of the lockdown, and some poems that witness the world beyond the locked-down human realm. And a selection from A Gathered Distance, probably the title poem, since poetry closes the distances down that contagion opens wide. In poetry each of us is all of us and one’s self, no matter how isolated, multiple. If you’d like to join in, click here:
